Kamrup District Administration observed National Press Day on 16-Nov-2025 in solidarity with the nationwide celebration, highlighting the crucial role of a free, responsible, and credible media in a democratic society. The programme was chaired by District Commissioner Shri Deba Kumar Mishra, and attended by Additional District Commissioner Shri Garga Mohan Das, Smti Rashmi Baruah Gogoi, Co-District Commissioner, Palashbari, officials from the Integrated DC Office, Kamrup, and other dignitaries.This year’s national theme, “Safeguarding Press Credibility Amidst Rising Misinformation” formed the core focus of the event. Shri Arup Jyoti Choudhury, retired DIPRO, delivered the keynote address, speaking on the rising challenges posed by misinformation in the digital era and emphasizing the importance of maintaining ethical journalism, factual accuracy, and professional integrity.Addressing the gathering, the District Commissioner highlighted the significance of media, especially print journalism, in shaping society and aiding effective administration. Reflecting on his experience as a civil servant, he acknowledged the vital role of journalists and encouraged members of the media fraternity to adapt to rapid transformations in the field of electronic and digital communication. “We must move forward in accordance with the times and constantly update ourselves,” he stressed.In his keynote remarks, Shri Anupjyoti Choudhury cautioned against the dangers of fake news and cited instances where media organizations were misled due to inadequate verification. He reaffirmed the need for responsible reporting and strict adherence to fact-checking protocols.A few prominent journalists from the district also spoke on the occasion, highlighting their concerns amid the flux in the media landscape.
